Home again, home again, jig-a-jig jig. 10 days on the road, sleeping in good beds, but not our bed, tires me out. But here we are again. I heard from one person that they had read my post, but I'll give the reply I was figuring on giving any way.
What I want to do is fill you in on the health of the ones we visited. I'll start with Virginia's twin who is Aunt Trudy to my clan. She has about given up. Her walking is very hard--she leans heavily on the walker, grunting and breathing very hard, with each step. She doesn't try to do much but to go down to the senior center each day, then back home again. We, along with her daughter, Lavella, went down to the 4 Star diner in Roland, right across from the casino. On arriving we found out that Tuesday evening was Karioke night, so the twins sang "Amazing Grace." Several of the diners came around and congratulated the twins on the 85 years of life, and for singing one of their favorite songs.
As soon as we had finished our meal, we went back up the mountain to home, and had some vanilla ice-cream I had picked up at the store. The next day, after the noon meal at the senior center, I took the twins into old Van Buren, Ark. to visit with Ralph and Nancy Irwin, who had been in our church in Hawthorne, Calif, many years ago. She took some pictures, and by the time I reached sister Martha's in Missouri, they were on Beckys Fact-book page. So you can check on us there if you wish. Also, Nancy is in one of the pictures. She is still as sweet as ever. Right Becky?
Our next stop was with Jeff and Judy. All there are doing great. We had hugs all around. Those children are really growing. Caitria is doing quite a bit of drawing, and she gave grandma a lovely pencil drawing of a beautiful young girl. We shall matt it and frame it, and hang it somewhere around the house. The grandchildren know that we hang up their drawings on a basement wall. This one will have to be in a more respectful corner of the house!
From there our carload, and their family drove up to Keith and Martha's. The children paddle-boated, and rowed the old scow, all over Keith's pond. Keith and I wetted some worms, and I was lucky enough to pull in a half dozen, even in the extreme heat and dryness. In fact, one of the blue-gills was the largest I have ever caught--over nine inches in length, and very heavy. We put everything back, because it looked like they were still carrying their spawn. Jeff and Judy went back home, but Virginia and I stayed the night with the Browns .We attended their morning services, then 16 of us took Martha out to dinner, since it was her 77th birthday. She was so confused. She knew it was her birthday, but didn't know why we were all there with her for dinner. In the afternoon most of us rested at Keith's, then at about sundown, Brett, Keith and I went down to the pond again. The first 6 casts by me each got a fish--two bass and 4 blue-gills. So Brett said that I was catching so many that I was stealing his fish. In short time that we fished, I took in more than a dozen, but Keith caught one super-sized blue-gill. It was about 10 inches long, and really fat with spawn. We returned all of the fish back to the lake, as soon as we landed them, looked them over, and had removed the hooks carefully. Now I need to go back once more this summer to see if Keith and I can have another good day.
At that point we fed the fish with some special pellets he buys. Swimming around cleaning up the pellets was an 18 or 20 inch catfish. If that comes around the next time we are there, we intend to make nuggets out of her!
Martha is very forgetful. She can remember and converse about almost anything that is over ten years back. But the things right now she cannot remember. I don't know how many times she asked where we were sleeping, and if we were staying overnight. Or, "What time do we go to church?"  About every 10 or 15 minutes she would ask that again. And Keith is so patient with her. Brett also comes in and helps with cooking, and the medications, and the diabetes checkups. Tammy helped with the cleanup after our last breakfast there. Remember that household in your prayers. It is a real test of each of their faiths.
On to Peter and Michelle's where we found Pete ill.(A bad cold.) We spent the evening watching old programs that  he had recorded. He was feeling better this morning, so he packed his lunch and went off to work. Michelle had a breakfast and went over to the Covered Bridge Cafe for the day. After they were gone, Virginia and I went over and had our breakfast with this daughter-in-law serving us. Good service, and good meal),We left from there and drove the 200 some miles to Mary's, arriving just after noon. We took her over to Elkhart to where Willie's daughter, Corrie, works. There we had a good fish meal, again with a very good waitress. I had to explain to other people there that I could hug and kiss the waitress because she was my niece!
Mary was in good spirits, for at least two reasons--she is doing better, and Willie is much better. You would not know he had been through an operation if you didn't ask him about it. The one thing that is not back to normal is his ability to swallow. The peristalsis has not returned so that his food is moved down into his stomach as it should. So he had to watch what he eats in order to aid, now hinder, that action. But he looks great. His voice ia strong.
We arrived home this evening in time for me to pick up our backlog of mail. There were several cards for Virginia, and a few bills for me.  I guess that is an even trade off. Oh, and one check came in to me to help me pay those bills! That made it worthwhile!  Uncle Paul,  PaulSr  or whatever you wish to call me!

Now don't drop dead! We have been off the internet for some time, but are back alive right now, although our connection with the neighbor's Y -5 is a little weak tonight.

This is what I really want to relay to anyone who may be interested--We shall be headed West early in the morning, taking Virginia out to see her twin, Trudy, so they can celebrate their 85th birthday together. Both are having some walking problems--old age and arthritis. Most of that comes with the age. Trudy uses a walker, but with 10 sessions of water-aerobics this past month, Virginia is doing quite well. Just don't ask her to "hurry up." You will probably get a verbal rebuke! I do have a cane and a walker here at home if she decides she needs them.

We shall visit on this trip, their youngest sister, Alice; my sister Martha; our grandchildren Jeff and Judy and their children; Peter and Michelle; and sister Mary. I haven't arranged anything after Jeff and Judy. I'll call ahead shortly before we go to each house, a day or so, because we haven't decided exactly how long we'll stay at Trudy's. Jeff and Judy know we are coming, but not which day. So Martha, we'll see you after we are at Judy's, and Peter you shall be after Martha; and Mary, we'll catch you on the way home from Peter's.

The first weekend in June is the Marion High Reunion--they now combine about 20 years together to get a larger turnout, and have it at Indiana Wesleyan University. This shall be my 65th year reunion, so our class will have a luncheon at the Hostess House, besides the events at the university. I have already called Alice Mae so she knows we'll make an appearance. Virginia's sister, Maxine, knows we're coming down (we'll be staying with her this time, but I need to call John so we can make contact with him. Of course, his class is one of those included in the 20 year grouping of classes, so he may be attending some of the functions.

And, of course, the Heavilin reunion is in June, and we shall be there. No bells, though. We'll just drag ourselves in and enjoy all the young people. Jeannie, the comp ground and the free fishing sounds real good. I shall bring some basic gear, so that I can dabble a hook in the water. God bless you all. We love you all very much, and appreciate being  part of the Heavilin family.Yes, I ran acoss the facebook pages  " Yes...I am a Heavilin". I'll need to sign on so I can correspond with some of those who came out of the wood work.

 Dear Friends,

We received news that 300 children are arriving in Indiana from Haiti tomorrow and we still need to find safe homes for many of them. Please, share this information with anyone who may be interested and able to help. It would be ideal if families are 'home study ready' (home study complete); however, if we need to put a rush on home studies, we will do all that we can.

We are waiting for more details on all the requirements, but can start looking for interest now. We know families will have to commit to at least one month of hosting a child. We do not yet know how many of these children will be orphans. Families must at least be able to pass a background check (everyone in their household).

Please, send to your church, Facebook friends, twitter followers, and other SM outlets. For now, have them email me if interested and someone from MLJ will follow up to make sure with more details. Thank you! What an amazing opportunity.

Respectfully,
